Special Places: Cone Peak |
Photo courtesy of Ricardo Small |
Cone Peak is one of a series of Old Cascades peaks, starting in the west with Iron Mountain, then Cone Peak, then South Peak, then Echo Mountain and ending with North Peak, that dominate the skyline north of the South Santiam River. Many of these peaks are known for their wildflower displays, and Cone Peak may have the best displays. |
Some may regard the Cone Peak Trail as a longer alternative path to Iron Mountain, and it is that, but it offers views of old growth forests, of extensive wildflowers in the Woods and in the High Meadows, and views of other peaks and distant vistas. |
